Survey on Migration in Mexico's Northern Border (EMIF-N) 2004
EMIF is a joint project of the National Population Council (Consejo Nacional de Población - CONAPO), the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (Secretaría del Trabajo y Previsión Social - STPS), the National Migration Institute (Instituto Nacional de Migración - INM) and the Northern Border College (Colegio de la Frontera Norte - COLEF). The first survey was conducted in 1993, since then there have been 9 more surveys, the last one available corresponds to the year 2006.
Its main objective is to extend the knowledge of labor migration towards the northern border of Mexico and to the United States, highlighting its important determinants and trends, and the impact on the labor market and on both societies.
EMIF allows the generation of indicators on sociodemographic characteristics, employment and place of residence, including migrants from the South, North and those people sent back by border authorities.
